AMD Vega GPU Might Get 2018 Release

AMD's Vega graphics architecture is creating the headline for a long time. Many gaming enthusiasts are frothing at the mouth in anticipation of what Vega might bring to the table. One AMD official confirmed with a post recently on Weibo that, the consumer based Radeon RX Vega will launch soon. If latest report is to be believed then Vega might get a delay until the next year.

According to the PCGameshardware's insider source of AMD, the mainstream AMD Radeon RX Vega GPUs might be available in Q4 2017 or Q1 2018, as reported by Game-Debate. AMD Vega is already official with the announcement of AMD Radeon RX Vega Frontier Edition card for developers. The graphics card is decked out with 64 next-gen compute units, 4,096 stream processors, and 16GB of high-bandwidth cache.

According to AMD, AMD Radeon RX Vega FE is capable of delivering around 25 TFLOPS of half-precision compute performance (FP16) and 13 TFLOPS of single precision compute performance (FP32). On the other side, NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1080 Ti deliver 11.4 TFLOPS of single precision compute performance, according to Hot Hardware.

While it will be possible to play games on the AMD Radeon RX Vega Frontier Edition card, AMD recommends against it. In its place, the AMD said it is better to wait for its consumer variants card, which it claims will be even faster in games than the Frontier Edition.

AMD is expected to roll out a high-performance variant of Vega to consumers before releasing mid-range SKUs. At Computex earlier this week, AMD said that they are planning to introduce Radeon RX Vega graphics cards at SIGGRAPH 2017, which will take place in Los Angeles from July 30 to August 3. AMD will release mid-range variant Vega cards a few months later at the end of 2017, or more likely into early 2018.
