AMD Radeon RX Vega Will Be Released Later This Year: Soft-Launch Confirmed At Computex By Harsh Soni h_soniji@rediffmail.com | May 22, 2017 06:05 AM EDT AMD demoed and discussed its Vega Frontier Edition graphics card this week at its financial analyst day. However, the disappointing news for fans is that AMD will not be releasing a consumer Radeon RX Vega GPU at Computex or in June. AMD has promised more details on its 14nm FinFET Vega architecture at Computex in May. But those hopeful for an irritable launch following the reveal are out of luck. AMD Radeon RX Vega, which is the consumer version of Vega, will be shown off at Computex, but won't be available to buy until later in the year. AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition the workstation is currently earmarked for a "late June" launch. In a Reddit AMA session Raja Koduri, Senior VP and Chief Architect of Radeon Technologies Group at AMD, answered questions about the upcoming RX Vega line. Koduri started off by thanking everyone for their interest in latest Vega and also said that the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition graphics cards "will have a big impact on machine intelligence and content creators," and aren't for gamers, as reported by PC Gamers. "We'll be showing AM Radeon RX Vega off at Computex, but it won't be on store shelves that week," said Koduri. Senior VP and Chief Architect of Radeon Technologies Group also took the opportunity to have a wee dig at Nvidia, which has thus far only implemented HBM2 memory in extremely expensive enterprise graphics cards. AMD Vega FE "employs two stacks of HBM2," according to Koduri, offering speeds of up to 480GB/s. Weirdly, that's less than the 512GB/s of the Fury X and the 547.7GB/s of Nvidia's Titan XP, even though it's hardly slow, as reported by Ars Technica. Now everyone is waiting nervously for the follow-up Computex event where more details of consumer RX Vega graphics cards is expected to reveal. Stay tuned to Droid Report for more details.
