‘Sonic Mania’ Returns To Flying Battery Zone, Including Knuckles The Echidna By Vittorio Hernandez | May 17, 2017 04:01 PM EDT A new trailer for “Sonic Mania” released by Sega indicates that the upcoming game would go back to the Flying Battery Zone. Included in the revival of the zone is Knuckles the Echidna. Knuckles is seen negotiating his way through a remixed edition of the giant airship of Dr. Eggman. Mashable noted that the Flying Battery Zone is a throwback to 1994 when “Sonic & Knuckles” was one of the best of the 2D era. With the new version of the Flying Battery Zone in “Sonic Mania,” Knuckles uses his climbing and gliding abilities which made it easier from him to traverse the perilous metallic zone. Polygon reported that “Sonic Mania” will launch on Nintendo Switch, Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. However, the launch date has not been revealed yet by Christian Whitehead, a Sega developer who has collaborated with PagodaWest Games and Headcannon to develop and publish the game, except it would be in summer 2017. Bio Game Girl reports that Sega, by blending Sonic platforming, which belongs to the Genesis era, with New Zones, Powerful Bosses, and three playable characters, “Sonic Mania” becomes the ultimate celebration of the past and future. The two other playable characters are Sonic and Tails. The blog adds that Sonic, over the past 25 years, had collected so many rings across different Zones. The upcoming game, “Sonic Mania,” would give old and new fans of Sonic games a new experience that would leave the players smiling. It could be pre-ordered from Sega. After the release of the new game, Sega would release in later 2017 another game, “Sonic Forces” which blends more modern 3D “Sonic the Hedgehog” games and his 2D beginnings. It would be similar to the Sega game “Sonic Generations” released in 2011. “Sonic Forces” will have two different versions of the Sonic character.
