ASUS Might Shut Down The Development Of Their ZenWatch Smartwatches By Ralphy Bonn Sim | May 17, 2017 03:15 PM EDT ASUS could put to an end the development of its Android Wear-based ZenWatch smartwatch product line. Due to the low sales of the devices, this created the company's decision to shut down its development and production. According to The Verge, this new report was based on unnamed sources from ASUS' supply chain from Taiwan, claiming that the shipments of ZenWatch devices have only been between 5,000 and 6,000 units a month, which is just a small quantity in terms of production demand. However, consumers must keep in mind that ASUS hasn't yet confirmed this issue, so consumers must not jump into conclusions. The news came from Digitimes, which has released mixed record in previous scoops when it comes to accuracy. ASUS launched its first ZenWatch back in the fall of 2014, which was then followed up with the ZenWatch 2 in September 2015. The ZenWatch 3 just went on sale a few months ago in late 2016. All of these three smartwatches launched with Android 1.0, however, ZenWatch 2 and ZenWatch 3 are scheduled to be among the older devices that would be updated to Android Wear 2.0. Meanwhile, the last time frame where the company came from is when the Android Wear 2.0 downloads was released for the ZenWatch 2 and ZenWatch 3 early in the second quarter last year. However, the time frame has passed with no such thing as downloads. Many ZenWatch users are waiting and contacted ASUS to see if they can provide an update on those plans but they got nothing. The smartwatch industry is still in its early days. Smartwatch manufacturers are still working to gain traction with the general public. Facts added that there are lots of Android Wear smartwatches on the market, where it can be tough for any particular vendor to excel. Stay tuned for more updates as we are wait for ASUS' confirmation about the issue.
