International Data Corporation Update As The Global Smartphone Market Grew Up To 4.3 Percent In The First Quarter Of 2017

International Data Corporation (IDC): the global smartphone market has registered a growth of 4.3 percent YoY. The first quarter of 2017 with the overall shipments of 347.4 million units, opposed to the 332.9 million handsets that were shipped worldwide during the same period in the year of 2016.

According to GSM Arena, big smartphone manufacturers such as Samsung, Apple, and Huawei have retained their top three positions gaining with 22.8 percent, 14.9 percent, and 9.8 percent shares of the global smartphone market. OPPO and Vivo claimed the spot joining the top 5.

Samsung, as the market leader managed to ship 79.2 million units during the despite the Galaxy Note 7 issue, Apple did 51.6 million units to ship, whereas Huawei marked 34.2 million units worldwide during the first three months of 2017. Both Samsung and Apple lost market share with their growth stagnating during the period, while the well-established Chinese manufacturers such as Vivo, OPPO, and Huawei made headway.

According to IDC's official site, top 5 smartphone manufacturers boosted their collective market share from 57.9 percent to 60.1 percent even though more companies continue to enter the mobile industry every passing year. In previous years, the global tech heavyweights HTC, Sony, and LG are nowhere to be found. Xiaomi as once the largest smartphone vendor in China, remains outside of the global top five as the company continues to try and compete for its success in China, even though its market share continues to soar in India.

 Meanwhile, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge supported Samsung significantly during the quarter, as the company's Galaxy A-series and Galaxy J-series mid-rangers are also said to have sold well in 2016 that helps the company claimed to the top position. As for Huawei, the company doesn't only retain the number three spot but actually managed to close the gap with the two leaders after gaining a massive 22 percent growth, shipping 34.2 million units as opposed to 28.1 million units last year.
