LG's Model G5 SE (H840) May Be Added To Bootloader Unlock Program By Suraj staff@droidreport.com | Apr 19, 2017 06:13 PM EDT LG started allowing users to unlock the bootloaders in certain LG smartphones in 2015. Thereafter, many of their latest smartphones have showcased this feature. The G5 SE (H840) is the newest addition to this list. The company announced on their website that they will allow this bootloader unlock feature in select releases of LG Smartphone. Now, the variant G5 SE (H840) was released in June 2016. The handset comes with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 operating system, Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset, 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. Other specifications include a fingerprint sensor, fast battery charging, and Corning Gorilla glass. The G5 SE (H840) will now also be included under the bootloader unlock program. However, also declared in the LG Developers site was that the unlocking feature is solely intended for developers. The handset would operate fine with the inbuilt software and it is not necessary to unlock the bootloader. One can unlock the bootloader and download the Customized kernel and Android binary by first logging into LG's website. The next step is entering the first 15 digits of the phone's IMEI number into LG's site. One also has to download and install the latest Android SDK (or Fastboot Installer, if preferred) to generate an unlock key. LG made it clear that once the bootloader has been unlocked, no software defects in the device will be covered by LG warranty. Unlocking bootloader will change the certified Android version and the company takes no responsibility of how the device will run on the custom software, as mentioned in GSM Arena. Probable side effects of unlocking that would not be covered by the LG warranty include overheating of the device, features, and functions of the device getting disabled and data on the device disappearing. Despite the tedious process of unlocking the bootloader and the risk of losing warranty, certain users of the G5 SE (H840) are of the opinion that being able to use custom ROM.
