AMD Ryzen 5 1600X Specs Update: Ryzen 5 Hits 5.9GHz, New Clockspeed Record For 6-Core Processors By Harsh Soni h_soniji@rediffmail.com | Apr 18, 2017 09:12 AM EDT With the AMD Ryzen 7 lineup taking aim at the performance and enthusiasts market, AMD is rolling out the latest Ryzen 5 lineup with the mainstream gaming market in its sights. With benchmarks from notable testers coming out, it would appear that AMD may have finally hit the market between performance and cost. It is clear that the AMD Ryzen 5 lineup is aimed to go against Intel's Core i5 family of processors. As recent benchmark tests proved this to be quite true, the Ryzen 5 may have more trick under its sleeve. Just a couple of days after its official release, notable overclocker Der8auer was able to push the Ryzen 5 1600X over its limits and was able to set a new record. The AMD Ryzen 5 1600X processor is a six-core processor with a base clock of 3.6GHz and boost clock of 4GHz. The most interesting spec of this processor is its TDP that is at 95W. However, this is an impressive power efficiency spec which allows a lot of headroom for overclocking, and that is exactly what overclocker Der8auer has in mind. Der8auer was able to push the Ryzen 5 1600X's clock speed to 5.9GHz or 5,905.64MHz to be exact with the aid of liquid nitrogen. As per the PC Gamer, what is even more impressive is that he was able to achieve this without disabling any of the six cores. The record for fastest clock speed for a six-core processor was previously held by the Intel Core i7-5820K. The overclocker claimed that it's a really impressive performance of the AMD Ryzen 5. With the use of the four Global First Places in the categories of six cores CPU such as the Cinebench R11.5 6x, Cinebench R15 6x Geekbench3 6x, and the GPUPI for CPU-1B, the Ryzen 5 was seen able to perform efficiently. Overclockers Der8auer also able to run the AMD Ryzen 5 chip at the base clock speed of about 129.79MHZ along with a 25.5X multiplier and made a full LN2 temperature dropped at -170C. The record-setting AMD Ryzen 5 1600X sits on an Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero X370 motherboard. It is powered up by 2GB of G.Skill Trident Z DDR4 memory, and 128GB of SSD for storage. The rig runs on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit edition.
