Microsoft Adds 40 Customized Radeon Compute Chips To Make Xbox One Scorpio Run At 1172 MHz By Vittorio Hernandez | Apr 10, 2017 09:35 AM EDT Microsoft would launch the Xbox One Scorpio at E3 2017 in June. The powerful gaming console is expected to compete with PlayStation 4 of Sony. The upcoming gaming console, which has the capability to process six teraflops or six trillion floating point operations per second, is 4.5 time the power of the last Xbox One. Digital Foundry Tries Upcoming Console. However, when compared to the PS 4, the Xbox One Scorpio is 1.4 times more powerful than the console from Sony. To show the capabilities of the upcoming console, Microsoft asked Digital Foundry, a critic of Xbox One, to try the console. The critic was not disappointed, Tech Times reports. Xbox One Scorpio is being compared not only to the PS4 but also the Xbox One S, the predecessor of the console. Besides the capability to process six teraflops, the upcoming game console features a 2.3GHz clock speed and 12GB GDDR5 RAM. In comparison, PS4 is capable of processing 4.2 teraflops with a 22.1GHz clock speed and 8GB GDDR5 RAM. But the game website points out that the PS4 has one advantage over the Xbox One Scorpio. It has a better list of exclusive titles such as “Nier: Automata,” “Persona 5,” and “Horizon Zero Dawn.” The only game so far sure to release along with the upcoming powerful console is “Forza Motorsport 7.” Going Beyond 60 Frames A Second. Tech Crunch, however, notes that while the announced specs of Xbox One Scorpio sound impressive, the 1080 T is more powerful than the upcoming console, and as powerful as Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070. The tech website adds that PC players would find it funny the claim of Microsoft that gamers could play games on Xbox One Scorpio at native 4K or 60 frames per second. But TechPortal reports that Microsoft had addressed that concern by working with AMD to insert in Xbox One Scorpio 40 customized Radeon compute units in a single chip made by TSMC. The system would get a boost because the chip could run at 1172 MHz.
