As part of an April Fools’ Day joke, there were reports that Supercell would make major game updates on “Clash Royale.” Besides major changes, there were speculations of abundant additions. However, it turned out, the promised elixir monster and new traps were just hoaxes.

Game Is A Winner At BAFTAs. According to the prank, there would be a Mortar which shoots Goblin Barrels, and an upscaling of Tombstones and Skeletons. These changes would also mean the game’s title had to be changed to “Giant Skeletons” from “Clash Royale.” However, what is real is that the game is a winner.

Pocket Gamer reports that “Clash Royale” and “Pokemon GO” won the 2017 Esports Audience Award and Best Mobile Game at the 2017 BAFTAs, respectively. The game beat “Overwatch,” “Street Fighter V,” “League of Legends,” “Dota 2,” and “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.” It was members of the community and not official BAFTA judges who picked the game as winner.

'Pokemon GO' Rules. While “Clash Royale” got the Esports Audience Award, “Pokemon GO” made gaming history by being the first free-to-play game to bag the Best Mobile Game Award since the category was introduced in 2013. The popular game from Niantic Labs beat “The Banner Saga 2,” “Dawn of Titans,” “Deus Ex Go,” “Pokemon Sun and Moon,” and “Reigns.”

However, “Pokemon GO” lost the Game Innovation and Family Awards at 2017 BAFTAs, Inquirer reports. The winners are “That Dragon, Cancer,” a PC and mobile game, and “Overcooked,” a console multiplayer game, respectively. “Clash Royale” was one of nine mobile games nominated across several categories. But the big winner remains to be “Pokemon GO” which also bagged the Grand Jury Prize at the IMGAs and the Best Mobile/Handheld Game at the GDC Awards.

Pocket Gamer adds that one year after Supercell launched “Clash Royale,” the game still has no worthy clear competition. Experts initially thought “Star Wars: Force Arena” and “Smite Rivals” could give the Supercell game a run for its money, but the “Star Wars: Force Arena” has tumbled down in the charts, while “Smite Rivals” was canceled.
