iPhone 8 Features Update: Can We Expect A Curved Screen In The Upcoming Flagship Device? By Jai S. | Apr 07, 2017 12:24 PM EDT A while back, Apple reportedly ordered over 70 million OLED panels from Samsung. Apparently, rumors are spreading that Apple is planning on using the OLED panels in the iPhone 8 to incorporate a curved screen in the device. Apple is planning on launching three devices by the end of the year 2017, and one of them is expected to have a curved screen. According to reports by Nikkei, the order for the OLED panels was unveiled a few days' back that hints on the use of curved OLED panels in the new iPhones. This would be the first time when Apple uses OLED displays in its flagship devices. iPhone 8 features update notes of this curved screen addition to be a possibility in the device. According to IHS Markit's David Hsieh, Apple has ordered 70 million OLED panels from Samsung this year. Meanwhile, Samsung plans on shipping over 95 million OLED units to Apple in 2017 if the company asks for more. Hsieh noted that the contract for the OLED panels was signed previous year between the two firms where Samsung is to provide the OLED panels to Apple, ZDNET noted. However, iPhone 8 features update does not clearly notify whether the new screen will be implemented in a similar way as seen in Samsung Galaxy flagship devices. According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple had plans on adding a curved screen to the iPhone in 2016. But, that contradicted the firm's latest statement stating that it might keep the all-flat look layout. DigiTimes noted that the three new devices that are coming this year will comprise of a new model, probably the iPhone 8, and two upgraded models to their latest flagship devices. Whether the iPhone 8 features update offers a curved screen is still to be seen. However, it is clear that one of the devices is about to get an OLED panel offering a higher resolution to the device.
