iMac 2017 to Feature 8K Retina Display: Apple iMac Delayed Because of Intel Cannon Lake? By Harsh Soni h_soniji@rediffmail.com | Apr 04, 2017 05:03 AM EDT Apple earlier sent a letter to its employees in which, CEO Tim Cook said that Apple has "great desktops in the works," and while the letter has been sent during late 2016 we still didn't hear anything official regarding the new iMac lineup. Apple patrons are expecting to see the iMac 2017 with many improvements on the design and hardware. The next machine will reportedly house some of the best features including 8K retina display and Intel's latest chip. The current iMac 5K monitor is already expensive and with the new rumored resolutions, the iMac 2017 could have the price doubled. Apple would not mind tagging a big price for the next desktop model since the tech giant has already done it with MacBook Pro. The Apple's upcoming iMac 2017 will feature 8K Retina display and Intel's latest Cannon Lake chipset, according to Financial Review AppleInsider reports that the iMac 2017 is probably delayed and could come into 2018. The reason for it is a potential delay in Intel's 10nm CPU development, as per an Intel executive said to PC World. The Intel Cannon Lake chips support LPDDR4 memory that allows support up to 32GB of memory. However, why AppleInsider believes that upcoming iMac is dependent on the unreleased Intel Cannon Lake is still unclear. As far as GPU is a concern, the upcoming iMac 2017 will reportedly contain AMD Polaris-based graphics card, possibly the latest RX 500. With the potential specs, the slicker iMac 2017 is expected to support virtual reality experience as well. Apple is also rumored to bring Mac's OLED Touch Bar feature to the desktop machine, as noted by Mobipicker. The last time Apple had updated the iMac was in 2015. Apple was expected to release a new iMac 2017 as early as the WWDC 2017 in June. However, till now, there is no official word or hard evidence on a new iMac is coming.
