Samsung Initial Production of Galaxy S8 is 20 Million Units to Ensure Sufficient Supply By Vittorio Hernandez | Mar 31, 2017 07:34 AM EDT There is no truth to a report by a Korean daily that Samsung may not be able to meet the expected high demand for its newly launched flagship, the Galaxy S8. The speculation was fueled by reports that Qualcomm is slow in producing its latest chipset, the Snapdragon 835 SoC. Double Galaxy S7 & S7 Plus’ Supply DJ Koh, Samsung Mobile chief, discloses that the South Korean tech giant would initially prepare 20 million units of the flagship. It is twice the initial supply of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus as part of Samsung’s big plans for the two newly launched smartphones, Android Authority reports. Because Samsung is preparing the supply with no difficulty, consumers who want to buy any of the two smartphones would find either of the two gadgets at any store since stock would be sufficient, GSM Arena adds. But some market analysts estimate that Samsung would sell only around 46 million units of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus in 2017, almost the same volume as the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge in 2016. While some of the new features of the new flagship may boost sales and debunk the pessimistic outlook of some analysts, the Galaxy Note 7 bursting battery issue may hound the Seoul-based giant and dampen demand for smartphones with the Samsung brand. Price Points Samsung is now accepting pre-orders for the SIM-free Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, priced at $750 and $850, respectively. However, retailers such as Best Buy and carriers such as US Cellular and Verizon, offer discounts. In stores, the two new flagships would be available by April 21 in the U.S., CNET reports. There are three color choices for the two new smartphones – Orchid Grey, Arctic Silver, and Midnight Black.
