iOS 10.3 Bumps Up Storage, iOS 10.3.2 Beta Vanquishing Support For 32-Bit Devices

iOS 10.3 is rolling out and there are positive things coming with the latest Apple operating system. One of them has to do with storage where reports are flying in that available storage has increased a bit.

Take the iPhone 7 Plus for example. According to Phone Arena, a stuffed 256 GB device saw its available storage increase from 75.45 to 83.26 GB after the iOS 10.3 update was applied. That is a technically 8 GB of additional space which could make a difference for devices full of apps. The update also gave an additional 2.64 GB in capacity. For those who want more free space outside what iOS 10.3 has given, sending some high-quality photos to iCloud could be a good idea.

As mentioned in a previous post, iOS 10.3 comes with some improvements in what could be preparation for iOS 11. The next Apple operating system is expected to come in June. Among the new improvements in iOS 10.3 include the “Find My Airpods” and “Find My iPhone App” features, both covered in detail previously.

While most are eager to see what iOS 10.3 can give, Apple has also released the iOS 10.3.2 beta. While more improvements are expected, it seems that some 32-bit devices will be affected. This would include the iPhone 5 and the 4th generation iPad, something that could hint at the Cupertino company possibly dropping support for older hardware.

Restore images will no longer be doable for the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c and the iPad 4. All three devices run on an A6 system-on-chip which was the last processor built on 32-bit architecture according to Apple Insider. Apple has since transitioned to the A7 SoC for the iPhone 5s back in 2013.

There is no certainty for now on whether Apple is pulling the plug on support for 32-bit devices. iOS 10.3.2 is still in the beta phase so anything can still tweak things to squeeze in support.
