Google Maps to Share Location, Trip Progress With Your Friends

Having a hard time explaining to your friend how to go to your party? Now, Google Maps will allow you and your friends to share real-time location and trip progress.

Revealed on Google's blog, the new Share Location button will show up soon in Google Maps mobile applications. If the user clicks on this, he or she will be taken to another screen where they will be able to see and select contacts on their phone that they wish to share location and let them know where you are.

In an article by 9 to 5 Google, they said that upon on the receiving end of the Google Map, the user will get a push notification. It would let them know if your location being shared with your friends and family.

How is that? Just simply open the notification on Google Map and it would allow them not only see the user's location but also share their precise coordinates in return.

Another feature on the new Google Maps also shows the other contact's trip progress. This could be very useful for people giving real-time updates on their trips to their friends and family especially if they are running late.

When using the navigation feature of Google Maps, users should tap the "More" button which could be found at the bottom of the display. After that, users should tap "Share trip" to know their trip's progress.

For those who are viewing one's trip will get to follow their location in real-time as well as they can see the expected time arrival in Google Maps. With this feature, the location sharing automatically turns off once they have reached their destination.

This real-time location sharing functionality in Google Maps will start in Android and iOS users worldwide. Users will be able to see their whereabouts from the app on Android.
