Microsoft to Block Updates from Intel, AMD, Qualcomm for Windows 7 & 8.1 By Staff Reporter | Mar 20, 2017 11:56 AM EDT In the previous year, Microsoft announced to everyone that it would have a new support policy for its Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Now, it seems to be that the company is not going to have something on this launch with them enforcing the same. PCs with the Microsoft Windows 7 and 8.1 operating system on their PCs will have some hard time with some updates. PCs that are powered by Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm processors are reported not to receive any updates in the future. Computer World has reported that users of Microsoft with the latest AMD and Qualcomm processors will receive a notification that would say that they will no longer receive further security updates for Windows 7 and 8.1. Users might receive messages like "Your PC uses a processor that isn't supported on this version of Windows and you won't receive updates". Another notification that Microsoft users would probably receive is a citation of error code 80240037. It would be notified when the user tries to get an update from Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. At this point, it may look like the case is only true for gadgets running in the seventh-generation processors from Intel and AMD or the next generation of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip for Microsoft. The chip for Intel is the Kaby Lake and the AMD is Bristol Ridge. The new policy was unveiled last early 2016. This is when Microsoft explained their choice of this decision as they revealed that the Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 are having a hard time to run these processors. With this, Microsoft decided that these generators would only work now for Windows 10. It was also announced that the update and support for Windows 8 and 8.1 will cease to exist soon. Ars Technica reported that Skylake was originally included in Microsoft's policy. Eventually, Microsoft opted for that since that there would only be security fixes that could be available for the SKylake system.
