The iPhone has always been a favorite in the tech world. Fans are always on the lookout for what Apple's latest iteration of its popular phone would have to offer when it comes out. However, many have also been frustrated when the company introduced minimal changes to each subsequent model. For the iPhone 8, however, speculations that it will be just the same as the ones before it seem to be untrue.

Giz Bot reports that rumors about the iPhone 8 earlier said that the next 5.8-inch iPhone display will have an edge-to-edge OLED display. This is reportedly made possible by minimizing the bezels and omitting the home button. There have also been talks that the next model will come with a curved display. While this had a lot of fans excited, new information appears to douse water on the fire.

Several reliable sources, including The Korea Herald and The Wall Street Journal, have said that the iPhone 8 will have a curved display. This was corroborated by other reliable media sources such as Nikkei Asian Review, KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo and Chinese research firm TrendForce. However, IHS Markit analyst Wayne Lam, who has worked in researching and analyzing the supply chain of smartphone makers, revealed to Mac Rumors that they anticipate Apple to adopt a flat implementation of the OLED design on the next model. This goes forward with its current 2.5D glass design.

He also says that the iPhone 8, just like the recently announced LG G6, is expected to have a touchscreen with a new aspect ratio design. This is intended to take advantage of a greater coverage area of the iPhone in its entirety. This new design language is expected to set a trend for 2017 and they all anticipate rival Samsung's big reveal later on. The point in comparison here is the LG G6's 5.7-inch display, which has a 2:1 aspect ratio. This means that the screen's length is twice its width.

It is also believed that the rumors about the iPhone 8 having curved screen had been wrong interpretations of the 2.5D cover glass. The edge to edge display actually makes the screen slightly curved. Samsung is expected to be the supplier of Apple's OLED displays in 2017. It is also said that the longer aspect ratio will give Apple more features for its screen, including Touch Bar-like functionalities.
