Sony recently announced that the PlayStation 4 or PS4 will have the 4.5 update this March 9 to testers. The noticeable major update to the console is the new Boost Mode feature and additional support for external hard drives.

Eddie Makuch of Gamespot reported that the Boost Mode feature aims to improve the quality of games. The games targeted in this update are those ones that have not been patched to support the PS4 Pro.

Sony explains that the Boost mode could provide a frame rate boost to some games with the variable frame. They also added that it can provide frame rate stability for 30 Hz or 60 HZ-programmed games for PS4.

The company added that depending on the game, the increased CPU speech could also result in shorter load times. In order to enable the Boost Mode, simply go to Settings then System.

Although it looks promising to PS4 players to have a new gaming experience, Sony said that Boost Mode is not really guaranteed to work with all games. Jacob Siegal of BGR has reported that the setting could be turned off so that the experience would be in line with the standard PS4.

The PS4 4.5 update would include tweaks for the PlayStation VR. With this update, it could make 2D images have a better visual quality on the virtual reality headset than before.

In addition, the PS4 4.5 update would give the Playstation VR a resolution quality that could put the players in the cinematic mode. The update could jump from 90 Hz to 120 Hz if the screen size is set to small or medium.

The PS4 4.5 would also add a voice chat feature for Remote Play on Windows PC, Xperia, or Mac. It can be toggled on and off by just clicking on the microphone icon located on the tool bar.

Users would also notice that the PS4 4.5 update would have a new icon on the toolbar that is shaped like a smartphone. It would pop up when a person is logged into PSN when they are not using their console. This could happen when the player has logged in to PSN through the PlayStation App or the PlayStation Messages App.

Sony also announced that the PS4 4.5 update would have thePlayStation Message and PlayStation Communities iOS and Android apps. It features a party invitation and communities app. You can read more of this update in this PlayStation Blog post.
