It has been two months since the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus rolled out in India, and now Moto is bringing that same update to United State users. However the update also includes the old December 2016 Android security patch.

According to Republic Wireless, Motorola has started an Android 7.0 Nougat soak test for the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus, so it may start a nationwide rollout soon. It looks like the update, with build number NPJ25.93-13, will include the rather old December 2016 Android security patch, despite the fact that we're now in March 2017.

Motorola's official support page for the update shows that, they will include some exact additions just for  Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus devices. One is a way to shrink the screen with just a swipe that can be enabled by opening the Moto app, then tapping on "Actions" and then finally by tapping "Swipe to shrink the screen".

The other feature which is coming with the Nougat update is just for the Moto G4 Plus. The feature will allow G4 Plus owners to disable and enable locking the phone's screen when it is on and when they touch the phone's fingerprint sensor, according to Android Police.

Both Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus can right now be bought unlocked in the US, being compatible with most relevant carriers. The two smartphones will soon be outshined by the brand new Moto G5 Plus, which should hit shelves in the coming weeks. Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus will be running Android Nougat out of the box.

You should also keep in mind that this update is likely to be a large one, so you will want to use your Wi-Fi connection to download it. The Moto G4 or Moto G4 Plus should have at least a 50 percent charge before downloading and installing the update and it also takes up to 20 minutes for it to complete the install process. Yaou can also manually check your device's Settings menu and then choose about phone, and finally System update to see if the update is ready to be downloaded to your phone.
