iPhone 8 Latest News & Updates: Apple May Ditch Curved OLED Screen, Wireless Charging and Lightning Port? By Christopher Alerta | Mar 02, 2017 04:25 AM EST As Apple is just months away from releasing its iconic follow-up to its controversial iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, rumor mills have been at their ripest now in terms of iPhone 8's purported features and specifications. But will all the glory of these speculations, there are just those that die right before it's the device's official launch. As per Forbes' Ewan Spence, iPhone 8's much-rumored new technological advancements such as the curved OLED screen along with the wireless charging may not be coming after all. This speculation comes after these rumored curved screens are reportedly not enough to support the demand for the forthcoming device. On the other hand, the wireless charging functionality may also be not making its debut this September as Apple is still perfecting the much-awaited feature. Another rumored feature that might not be equipped in the upcoming iPhone 8 is its Lightning Port. The Sun reveals that speculations have indicated that the firm might be planning to do away the Lighting jack and replace it with USB-3. If it turns out to be legitimate, then most of its consumers, especially those who are owning a lot of headsets and other accessories, might not be happy with this decision. On the other hand, iPhone 8's plan to substitute it with USB-3 will also allow using their own accessories as this type of port is a 'universal standard". As such, these consumers won't have to be forced to get these proprietary connectors and cables from the firm, akin to what was provided in 2016's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Pus. Other features and specifications iPhone 8 may come with are the AR (augmented reality) functionality, an, even more, water-resistant certification, a nearly bezel-less design and as expected, a faster RAM/native storage combination. The upcoming smartphone is slated to be unveiled this Sept. 2017.
