Samsung's comparative placing in 7th place to 49th place among the top 100 companies in Harris Poll Reputation Quotient Survey is actually a lowest negative 700% reputation ratings plunge. As Samsung weathers in the current detention after the arrest of its Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, Harris Poll is given an opportunity to compare reputation ratings as dominantly influenced by product factor or politically-related leadership factor for its next round of reputation survey this year.

Two years ago Samsung ranked as the 7th most reputable company in the U.S. but when it suffered a heavy blow because of the defect in the battery setup of Galaxy Note 7 its reputation ratings in Harris Poll nosedived to 49th place.The second whammy to world's largest phone maker appears to be long and sticky as Lee's detention and trials would be lengthy, coming up without closure this year and is expected to pass across the new Harris reputation survey by the coming October, just in time when the company would release its next flagship phone, the Galaxy S8, by Oct 30. Will it surpass the recent 700% reputation ratings plunge?

Harris Polls' annual reputation surveys consider six evaluation categories which are financial performance, workplace environment, vision and leadership, social responsibility, products and services, and emotional appeal. Whether several crises due to product defect is most damaging or not to corporate reputation as against a long-dragging leadership issue is awaited as an interesting matter to the corporate world. The recent 700% reputation ratings of Samsung plunge might yet be surpassed due to politically related leadershi[ factor.

Samsung suffered a huge drop in earnings estimated to be $6 billion at the end of third quarter last year after many Samsung's Note 7 devices overheated and burst into flames sending the world into frantic mode. It forced the company to recall and phased out the unit.

Lee, de facto leader of the Samsung conglomerate, was accused of bribery, embezzlement, and perjury in connection with roughly $37 million in payments made by Samsung to entities allegedly linked to a friend of President Park Geun-hye. Lee denied the charges. Samsung since then has been making advertisement blitz at present after suffering a 700% reputation ratings plunge.
