Huawei Unveils A Fast Charging Battery By Staff Reporter | Nov 17, 2015 09:36 PM EST When running late and just noticed that the smartphoneâs battery is close to 0%, so the user attempts to charge it while he's in the shower. As he gets ready to go, he grabs the phone, only to see that the charge is at a mere 3%. What a letdown. So he'll pull the phone from the socket, and go grab a power bank. As he's stuck in traffic, he discovers that his power bank is all out of juice, too. Tough luck. So he starts thinking about getting a phone with fast charging features. Today, though, one is already thinking about ordering a fast charger from eBay. And darn it, one canât even set a reminder, because the phone is practically dead. The problem with fast charging, though, is that it tends to damage the batteries. Huawei found a solution, with the new technology built into the batteries they unveiled at the 56th Battery Symposium in Nagoya, Japan, which happened last week. The 56th Battery Symposium in Nagoya, Japan: https://www.knt-ec.net/2015/denchi56/en/ The new technology is exciting. With a battery charged up to 50% in just 5 minutes, a near-dead phone would be usable to bring through the morning commute to work. Situations as the one described above would be less of a pain by then. Huawei demonstrated the following in the event: -A 600 mAh capacity battery that charged up to 68 percent in just 2 minutes. -A 3,000 mAh battery that charged up to 48 percent in 5 minutes. Finding ways to charge phones and batteries faster is a trend in the gadget industry. Even Qualcomm announced its QuickCharge 3 technology in September, which promises to take the phone from 0% to 80% in just 35 minutes. The fast charging technology from Huawei is speculated to take its time to roll out, however. Engadget points out that the batteries require a specific charger for it to work, implying that those who are anticipating the product shouldnât hold their breaths. For now, it might be a good idea to always keep at least three power banks filled with enough âjuice.â *** More on the new quick-charging Huawei Battery: From PC Mag: https://asia.pcmag.com/batteries-power/7943/news/huawei-teases-fast-charging-batteries From Engadget: https://www.engadget.com/2015/11/15/huawei-graphite-fast-charging-battery/ From The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/nov/16/smartphone-battery-huawei-technology-charge-48-per-cent-five-minutes
