Goodbye, "Don't Be Evil," Hello, Longer Alphabet Inc. Code Of Conduct Statement By Staff Reporter | Oct 06, 2015 08:31 AM EDT Alphabet Inc. has dropped Googleâs famous motto, âDonât be evil.â Instead, the newly minted parent company has adopted the slogan, âDo the right thing â follow the law, act honorably, and treat each other with respect.â The company restructured last month, following an announcement that Google and all its products are going to be under a sub-company under the parent company Alphabet Inc. The restructure was enacted following press releases by Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, expressing that the founders preferred to pursue Googleâs bleeding-edge interests. They also expressed leaving the reins to current Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who has been running the company since last year. To refresh your memory, Alphabet Inc, with the website https://www.abc.xyz, will be the parent company for all of Googleâs interests, including the following: -Calico LLC. â An independent biotechnology and research company with the goal of finding ways to extend human life. According to Larry Page, the companyâs focus will be on "health, wellbeing and longevity." -Google Inc. â The company under Sundar Pichai, which includes all of Googleâs main interests, including search, advertising, and Android. -Google Capital â Alphabet Inc.âs âlate-stageâ venture funding company, wherein Alphabet invests in tech companies and products as they choose and deem profitable. -Google Fiber â Alphabet Inc.âs ISP company, which provides fiber-to-the-premises services in the USA. Its services include broadband internet and cable television. -Google Life Sciences â Another research subsidiary of Alphabet, which used to be under Google X. -Google Ventures â This is another venture capital subsidiary of Alphabet, but this sub-company focuses on seed, venture, and growth stage funding instead. Google Ventures prefers to back tech startups and help them as they grow. -Google X â Sergey Brinâs personal pet project, this is Alphabetâs âspace labâ of sorts, wherein Sergey Brin and his team seek to create "science fiction-sounding solutions" to todayâs problems. Expect this arm of Alphabet Inc. to work at finding the perfect way to teleport, years from now. -Nest Labs â Alphabetâs smart home arm, the direct competitor of Appleâs Smart Home. All in all, Alphabet Inc. is Googleâs effort to create greater order and free up the foundersâ hands from the day to day operations of the company that grew bigger than theyâve ever dreamed. The founders preferred to work with bleeding-edge technology and would rather leave the nitty-gritties of Googleâs daily, mundane operations to more capable hands, in this case, Sundar Pichai. And as regards to the âDonât Be Evilâ motto turning into the more formal-sounding âDo the right thing â follow the law, act honorably, and treat each other with respect,â this certainly seems to be a reflection of how Alphabet Inc. is moving to be a more formal, definitely more structured parent company. *** Google's Code of Conduct: https://investor.google.com/corporate/google-code-of-conduct.html Alphabet Inc.'s Code of Conduct: https://investor.google.com/corporate/code-of-conduct.html
