Excessive Pixels? The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium Boasts Of A 4K Display

When “Android smartphones” are mentioned, people hardly think of “Sony Xperia.” The most common associations with the phrase “Android smartphones” include “Samsung,” “LG,” and even “HTC,” “Motorola,” and lately, most likely, “Xiaomi.” In short, Sony Xperia has fallen so behind, Engadget reports that Sony is actually losing $1 Million USD every day that their mobile division operates. Sad figures that hint at a lackluster consumer reception.

And yet, that doesn’t keep Sony from trying. Recently, they released the sexy, even gorgeous Z5, with a premium twist: The unit boasts of a 5.5-inch 4K display, capable of rendering 3,840 x 2,160 pixels in resolution, and 806 ppi in pixel density. Excessive? Considering that the eye can only see a maximum of 324 megapixels according to Clarkvision Photography, and the eye’s resolution, according to Gizmodo is just 576 megapixels, the 4K display on the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium may be a little too much.

And yet, Sony is trying. According to reports on the Xperia Z5 Premium, the phone “upgrades” the resolution on the media, so that the phone can render a crisper, clearer, view. For whoever needs to see their SMS and their selfies in 4K view, that would be a boon, then.

Skepticism on the ultra-resolution aside, the unit is a gorgeous looker. The Z5 Premium’s chassis comes in three colors: Chrome, Black, and Gold.

The Gold edition is the most stunning of the models, especially when the desktop wallpaper is set to a sleek black. The handset can certainly give the iPhone a run for its money, and those who prefer their gadgets to look stunning as they run smoothly would be delighted to carry the Z5 Premium in Gold.

The luxurious looker can certainly give the iPhone 6 a run for its money. Take note that the iPhone 6 Plus only has a pixel density of 401 ppi, so the Xperia Z5 Premium’s 806 ppi pixel density more than doubles that.

The Z5 Premium is expected to fetch a price that will reflect every inch of its premium design. It would be easy to imagine the A-Listers carrying units of these, but it’s easier to imagine that they’d choose iPhones instead.

The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is expected to hit the stores in November 2015.
