Former Apple CEO Brings The Obi Worldphone To The Smartphone Table

Apple alumni just launched a new line of classy smartphones.

Former Apple CEO John Sculley tapped Ammunition to design the new Obi Worldphone, which gives a fresh take on the Android.

Ammunition is a design studio founded by fellow former Apple alumna Robert Brunner. Robert Brunner was the former Industrial Design Director of Apple. The studio takes the Apple design sensibility to the Obi Worldphone, as it takes a unique spin on the Android, underscored with a hip and sleek design.

The Obi Worldphone comes with the Android Lollipop out of the box, with the Obi Lifespeed custom user interface. It lends a trendy, eye candy look to the smartphone.

The flagship, the Obi Worldphone SF1, sports a raised 5” display, protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4. At $199 for the 16GB ROM/2GB RAM, and $249 for the 32GB ROM/3GB RAM models, this is definitely a worthy alternative for those who are tired of the usual smartphone brands, and wouldn’t go for a Xiaomi. The entry-level line, the SJ1.5, comes in at $129, and is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The SJ1.5 does not have the raised-display design, though. Obi Worldphone calls its raised glass display the “floating glass display.”

To compare, the Asus Zenfone 2 is priced at $199 for its 16GB/2GB version, and its lowest-price model is that, the $199 version. The Moto G goes for $179. The other phones that can be had for around $129 include the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, and the Moto E. Nowhere as stylish as the Obi Worldphone SJ1.5, though. If the current lineup of phones bores you already, the Obi Worldphone is the brand you could look forward to.
