Former Apple CEO Brings The Obi Worldphone To The Smartphone Table By Staff Reporter | Aug 30, 2015 06:42 PM EDT Apple alumni just launched a new line of classy smartphones. Former Apple CEO John Sculley tapped Ammunition to design the new Obi Worldphone, which gives a fresh take on the Android. Ammunition is a design studio founded by fellow former Apple alumna Robert Brunner. Robert Brunner was the former Industrial Design Director of Apple. The studio takes the Apple design sensibility to the Obi Worldphone, as it takes a unique spin on the Android, underscored with a hip and sleek design. The Obi Worldphone comes with the Android Lollipop out of the box, with the Obi Lifespeed custom user interface. It lends a trendy, eye candy look to the smartphone. The flagship, the Obi Worldphone SF1, sports a raised 5â display, protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4. At $199 for the 16GB ROM/2GB RAM, and $249 for the 32GB ROM/3GB RAM models, this is definitely a worthy alternative for those who are tired of the usual smartphone brands, and wouldnât go for a Xiaomi. The entry-level line, the SJ1.5, comes in at $129, and is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The SJ1.5 does not have the raised-display design, though. Obi Worldphone calls its raised glass display the âfloating glass display.â For the specs, hereâs a more detailed run-through: Obi Worldphone SF1 Processor/Chipset: 1.5 GHz 64-bit Octa-core processor, Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 GPU: Adreno 405 GPU Internal Storage/RAM: 32 GB/3GB at $249; 16GB/2GB at $199 Connectivity: GSM, WCDMA, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n Expandable Storage: MicroSD, up to 64 GB Display: 5" JDI In-Cell IPS with an output of 1080 x 1920 pixels, at 443 ppi pixel density, protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 with Oleophobic Coating; Fully-laminated OGS (One Glass Solution) Cameras: Primary: 13MP AF with LED Flash; Sony Exmor IMX214 Sensor; f/2.0 Aperture; Secondary: 5 MP with LED Flash Battery: Non-removable 3000 mAh Li-Po battery with Quick Charge⢠1.0, Standby Time up to 20 days, Talk Time up to 28 hours on 2G, 23 hours on 3G Goodies: Dual SIM (Micro + Nano SIM), Dual Mic for Noise Cancellation, Dolby Audio Surround 7.1, Quick Charge 1.0 Obi Worldphone SJ1.5 at $129 Processor/Chipset: 1.3 GHz Quad-core processor, MediaTek MT6580 RAM: 1GB Internal Storage: 16GB Connectivity: GSM, WCDMA, HSPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n Expandable Storage: MicroSD, up to 32 GB Display: 5" IPS with curved glass touch panel, with an output of 1280 x 720 pixels, and a 294 pip pixel density, protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with Oleophobic coating Cameras: Primary: 8MP AF OV8865 with LED Flash; f/2.2 Aperture; Secondary: 5MP Battery: Non-removable 3000 mAh Li-Po battery Goodies: Dual Micro SIM To compare, the Asus Zenfone 2 is priced at $199 for its 16GB/2GB version, and its lowest-price model is that, the $199 version.
