The All New One’ May Be The Worst-Ever Name For A Flagship Smartphone By Staff Reporter | Feb 20, 2014 12:09 PM EST The device called the HTC One 2 âM8â is now rumored to have its real retail name, âThe All New Oneâ. This may be the worst name a flagship smartphone has ever received in the entire history of flagship smartphones. âThe All New Oneâ as we are now calling it, has had other rumored names. Back when the lackluster specs were first leaking out we heard that the HTC One 2 âM8â (HTC One is M7) would be called the HTC One+, a more modest bump compared to a next-gen successor. Amusingly when the information about âThe All New Oneâ was leaked by @evleaks, Jeff Gordon the Senior Global Communications Manager at HTC felt the need to respond in a rather petty way resulting in the following interaction. The HTC One 2 âM8â, now known as âThe All New Oneâ may not be named the HTC One+ because the trademark in question is owned by former Oppo executive Pete Lau who owns the startup smartphone company OnePlus. When he heard that HTC was considering the HTC One+ name he declared that he was ready to go to court to defend his legal rights, âLately, a few friends have been asking whether or not our product name, OnePlus One, will clash with a certain competitor's present or future product names. Let's just say that we're confident about defending our legal rights.â Still the name that HTC has settled on is a pretty terrible mouthful and not at all catchy. HTC would have been better off calling it the HTC One 2 or the HTC One (2014). Thatâs actually a possibility that Phandroid brings up, that HTC may call it the HTC One 2014 similar to how Google called the Nexus 7 (2013) rather than changing the whole naming convention. The HTC One 2 âM8â release date has been confirmed to be March 25, where the next-gen flagship device will be unveiled during an event in New York and London. The design and build of âThe All New Oneâ look much the same as the HTC One, with the same all-metal body and front facing speakers. However the next-gen flagship differs in some key ways, namely the capacitive physical buttons are gone, replaced in favor of on-screen buttons. In addition to that the HTC One 2 âM8â has dual rear facing cameras. The specs we know of so far include a 5-inch 1080p HD display, a Snapdragon 8âprocessor, 2GB or 3GB of Ram, a dual Ultrapixel rear facing camera, a 2.1-megapixel front facing camera and Android 4.4 KitKat with Sense 6.0. âThe All New Oneâ is expected to launch in several colors including gray, silver and gold. Forget HTC One+. Look for M8 to be called The All New One, in gray, silver, and gold.ââ¬â @evleaks (@evleaks) February 18, 2014@evleaks LOLââ¬â Jeff Gordon (@urbanstrata) February 19, 2014.@urbanstrata In silver. pic.twitter.com/RJIEIZ7bdg ââ¬â @evleaks (@evleaks) February 20, 2014@evleaks Dear Sir, Thanks for your enthusiasm for HTC and ongoing offers for free PR.
