AT&T Expands Smart Home Automation Offerings By Staff Reporter | Feb 19, 2014 12:57 PM EST AT&T on Wednesday announced the expansion of its Digital Life offering to four new markets, bringing the total to 63 markets in the U.S. Launched in 2013, AT&T Digital Life is the carrierâs nascent home security and automation service.âThis year is going to be exciting for AT&T Digital Life and the connected home industry,â said Kevin Petersen, president, Digital Life, Inc. in a press statement. âWeâre going to expand our footprint and add features to the platform while being aggressive in the market to show customers how convenient it is to control your home with our easy-to-use technology.âAT&T Digital Life subscribers can automate and control a variety of household tasks using an iOS or Android app, or through a web browser. The two principal components to Digital Life are a 24/7 professionally monitored security service, as well as a wireless home management system that allows users to control appliances, door locks and thermostats remotely. The company says the system was designed with ease of use in mind and that scheduling tasks or adding new devices is a cinch.âAT&T Digital Life makes customersâ lives easier by simplifying the management of their home, offering security, convenience and peace of mind, in a customizable and easy-to-use experience from a smartphones, tablet or computer,â the company said. âWith Digital Life, customers can use their existing home broadband provider and enjoy the security and convenience of a home management system with the flexibility to meet their unique needs.âAT&T offers Digital Life in two base plans: Simple Security, which provides basic home security features and Smart Security, which adds enhanced security, as well as home automation. Simple Security costs $29.99 per month plus a one-time charge of $149.99 for equipment. Smart Security will set you back $39.99 per month plus $249.99 for equipment. A number of add-ons are also available like the Camera and Door Package, which range from $4.99 to $9.99 each.
