How Does The LG G Pro 2 Specs Compare Against the Samsung Galaxy Note 3?

By Staff Reporter | Feb 13, 2014 05:11 PM EST

The LG G Pro 2 has been officially launched in South Korea following a press event. The LG G Pro 2 is the first next-gen phablet of 2014 which givies it a fairly powerful set of specs and features. In many ways it looks like what we are familiar with already. We can see a design clearly inspired by the LG G2 and the LG Optimus G Pro. The 5.9-inch Full HD IPS 1080p display makes it one of the larger phablets on the market today, surpassing the 5.7-inch Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and rivaling the 5.9-inch HTC One Max and 6-inch Sony Xperia Z Ultra. The LG G Pro 2 specs ultimately give it more power than the HTC One Max and make it a close rival to both the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, particulalry the Google Play Edition.

The LG G Pro 2 has the same back power button and volume rockers which have become key features of LG flagships. It also boasts tap to wake and a number of other interesting features you can read about below which improve multitasking. Dual browsers can be placed side by side with the multiwindow feature and the the screen can be resized to a number of different sizes in order to make one handed use easier. The LG G Pro 2 has all the specs you expect of a flagship, a Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera and other typical things. Where the LG G Pro 2 becomes more interesting is the fact that the camera has 4K Ultra HD recording capabilites, something that only the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 currently has. On top of that the LG G Pro 2 has a removable battery and a microSD card slot to expand the 16GB or 32GB memory even further. Potentially you could swap a monster battery in to give you plenty of battery life for the big screen.

While the LG G Pro 2 specs make it good, its interesting to note that it still only places it on par with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Samsung has done a really good job of future proofing the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and while it can no longer boast to be the most powerful smartphone on the market is is holding up very well compared to the recently released LG G Pro 2. The main fact that will distinguish the devices will be price, we don't know how much the LG G Pro 2 will cost in the US just yet but we can't imagine that it will be any less than $600 while the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 costs upwards of $700. These are both expensive flagships so ultimately the choice between the LG G Pro 2 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 may come down to features and brand loyalty. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has the stylus, a smaller screen and is more friendly for mulitasking. The LG G Pro 2 is lighter on the features but is significantly larger and can become a more powerful beast through expansion options.
