What Does The Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One 2 'M8' Look Like? By Staff Reporter | Feb 12, 2014 05:50 PM EST The Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One 2 âM8â picture leaks have allowed us to get our first major look at the upcoming next-gen flagships. Both devices have had picture leaks before but never in full detail. Now for the first time we are getting fairly through mockups of what we might expect from both devices. The Samsung Galaxy S5 despite promises from Samsung that it would be a major departure from the Samsung Galaxy S4 still bears resemblance to its predecessor. The HTC One 2 âM8â also leaked before and looks awfully similar to the HTC One. However in terms of design it appears that both companies are making some major changes from what has been traditional aspects of their design.

More from that Samsung home screen. pic.twitter.com/5Z0jKKxXYN
ââ¬â @evleaks (@evleaks) January 19, 2014
The Samsung Galaxy S5 will have a premium variant that will be among the first of the Samsung flagships to have a metal body. That means that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will have to diverge in some serious ways from the white plastic. Interestingly the new Samsung Galaxy S5 despite being metal does still look like the Samsung Galaxy S4 in body shape and the camera lens placement. The other Samsung Galaxy S5 budget variant will have similar body shape but will not have the premium all metal body. Instead the Samsung Galaxy S5 budget variant will be built like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with a plastic build covered by a stitched faux leather back. The Samsung Galaxy S5 will have a fingerprint scanner but it is interesting to note that unlike the iPhone 5s there is no need for an actual reader. Samsung has developed a technology that allows the top corners of the display itself to be used as the fingerprint reader with the plan to be to eventually expand it to the rest of the device. Interestingly the Samsung Galaxy S5 appears to have a dual LED flash, âJudging by the measurements alone (141.7 x 72.5 x 8.2mm), the phone lines up with what we were expecting from a larger 5.25-inch display. By comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S4 sits at 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm, and the Galaxy S3 was 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm. This means it could be taller than Galaxy S4, but thinner than the S3 (while still packing an unconfirmed 3,000mAh battery). Sounds exciting.â

HTC M8 mockup v2d, height and bezel corrected versus M7 #HTC #HTCM8 pic.twitter.com/OXw2spKudQ
ââ¬â leoside (@leoside) February 12, 2014

My HTC M8 mockup v2b, with Blinkfeed https://t.co/PHNwvSuWch ⦠#HTC #HTCM8 #HTCOne pic.twitter.com/Dbd5YyuHFs
ââ¬â leoside (@leoside) February 11, 2014
The HTC One 2 âM8â has less revolutionary changes. We can see similar all-metal body front dual facing speakers. However the big change is that HTC is finally moving from capacitive buttons to on-screen buttons. That should free up some real estate to expand the screen size. On top of that the other big change is that the HTC One 2 âM8â will have dual camera lenses on the back. On the front there is now an HTC logo on the bottom with the assumption being that the fingerprint scanner will be located there. Of course this information for either of these two devices wonât be entirely confirmed until we actually have the devices in our hands and Samsung and HTC officially launch them at MWC 2014.
