Does The LG G2 Look Good In Gold And Red? Press Renders Of Limited Edition Versions Suggest No, Not Really

The LG G2 has been officially announced to have two new limited edition versions with Gold and Red. The LG G2 in gold and red will be launched in Taiwan to celebrate the Lunar New Year, according to Tech Droid. The limited edition LG G2 in gold and red will be getting an Asian release and so far it hasn’t been announced if the colors will come to the United States. The LG G2 limited edition versions will be launched in Singapore on January 18 at the mobile carriers Starhub, SingTel and M1.

The LG G2 in gold and red will have a different textured back cover rather than the typical somewhat slimy plastic cover found on regular LG G2’s. The textured back cover of the gold and red LG G2 is intended to give a better grip and remove fingerprints. Unfortunately the press picture we’ve seen of this limited edition gold and red LG G2 don’t suit our tastes at all. While some colorful phones can look good, the gold iPhone 5 and the blue HTC One do look good, this just makes the LG G2 look gaudy. We suspect that bright colors worker better on all-metal smartphones than plastic smartphones. The Moto X is the only notable exception to this.

The LG G2 red does look a bit better than the gold, simply because the faux gold looks cheap on plastic compared to how it looks on metal. The gold LG G2 looks and feels tacky while the red at least might be an interesting change from the traditional black and white phones. The LG G2 in gold and red is aside from the color and back panel the same device with the usual 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display, 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, 13-megapixel OIS rear camera, 2.1-megapixel front camera, 16/32GB storage options, 3,000mAh battery and Android 4.2.2 JellyBean. The LG G2 in gold and red are being sold in Taiwan for $500 for the 16GB version and $560 for the 32GB version.
