The Galaxy TabPRO and Galaxy NotePRO Are Officially Real

After a fair share of rumors and speculation, Samsung finally unveiled the Galaxy PRO line of Android tablets this week at CES 2014. If you’re already a fan of Samsung hardware, the Galaxy TabPRO and Galaxy NotePRO lines will likely be exactly what you were hoping for. For all others, the Galaxy PRO devices will be high-end versions of the products you already don’t like.

The Galaxy TabPRO will come in three screen sizes with Wi-Fi-only and LTE variants. The Galaxy NotePRO will only be offered with a 12.2-inch screen and will have S Pen functionality. The new tablets all boast impressive specs sheets, with 3GB RAM for the cellular models, Snapdragon processors and internal storage ranging from 16GB to 64GB. All of the new devices have a 2560x1600 resolution.

Unfortunately, pricing will be equally high-end, with the cheapest model starting at around $390 and going all the way up to $850 for the Galaxy NotePRO with LTE.

“We created the Galaxy NotePRO and TabPRO series to kick-off a year in which Samsung truly establishes its leadership in the tablet market,” said JK Shin, CEO and president of IT & mobile division, Samsung Electronics in a press statement. “This new line offers the best-in-class content consumption and productivity, combining a stunning viewing experience with Samsung’s design legacy. The Samsung Galaxy NotePRO and TabPRO truly demonstrate our commitment to providing our customers with extraordinarily versatile product offerings, tailored to tablet users of every description.”

Perhaps to offset the rather high cost of the new Android tablets, Samsung also announced that it would be bundling a “gift package” of pre-paid content worth about $700. This includes 50GB of Dropbox storage for two years, a 3-12 month Evernote subscription and the NY Times for 12 weeks.

“We are delighted to team up with so many of the world’s best mobile content and service providers to bring our customers with industry-leading apps and services,” Shin said. “We are demonstrating our commitment to our mobile users by providing them with unmatched productivity right out of the box. The combination of Samsung’s best-in-class hardware with an unprecedented selection of premium apps, content and services will ensure an experience that supports all their creative and productive needs.”

Early hands-on reviews with the Galaxy PRO devices have been largely positive, but it will be a challenge for Samsung to move large volumes at such a high price point.
