Broadcom hosted a recent media event in San Francisco of some of the latest technologies and trends predicted for 2014. Broadcom Co-founder, Chairman, and Chief Technical Officer Henry Samueli had his perspectives posted on the companyâs blog this month on some of these trends and an infographic highlighting statistics of technologies predicted for tomorrow. BroadcomThe infographic highlights strong predictions in 2014 and statistics in mobile devices, wearable technology, IoT, mobile wi-fi connectivity on phones, NFC, connected cars, Bluetooth enabled devices and more. Broadcom is a company that has been engaged with such technologies and predicts that 99.98 percent of âconnecting everythingâ technologies will cross at least one Broadcom chip. Last month Nexus 7 Android 4.4. KitKat Tablets announced its offering of Wi-Fi. Google expects the Nexus 4 and 7 to receive the official update âsoon.â There were also several new features revealed for the device. Insatiable consumer demand for tablet computers will see unit shipments increase almost fourfold by 2016, substantially outpacing the growth of the laptop sector, predicts the latest publication from business intelligence experts GBI Research.The report states that 73 million tablets were shipped last year, but by 2016 that figure is expected to reach 275 million, showing an impressive Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 19 percent. By comparison, notebook shipments reached 198 million in 2011 and are forecast to hit 318 million by 2016, at a more modest CAGR of 7.6 percent. Wearable devices are set to take off in 2014. Google Glass is compatible with an Android smartphone or tablet device via Bluetooth. Wearables such as Google Glass and Pebble smartwatch have paved the way for the future generation of new wearable devices. The market is expected to surpass 1.5 billion by 2014.Broadcom is entering the wearable market with wireless connectivity for embedded device (WICED). The new offerings will have data specific to wearable sensors to be gathered and analyzed. It is predicted that with the adoption of smartphones, these technologies will continue to expand to every day lives.Todayâs wearable devices integrate lifestyle and technology. New and fresh technologies will be the contributing factor to this, thanks to the future entrepreneurs and innovators. The performance and speed which is offered through Android devices are a significant factor for new wearable technology adoptions. IoT or Internet of Things is powered by Google and Android. The future of our technologies relates strongly to how we connect to the Internet. In todayâs economic society our technologies are driven by some of the largest organizations in the world with investments. The Internet of things spending was at $4.8 trillion in 2012. It is expected to reach $8.9 trillion in 2020. According to IDC, âThe Internet of things will change everything and be "a new construct in the information and communications technology world." "The enabler for growth over the forecast period is the pervasiveness of wireless connectivity and ubiquitous access to Internet regardless of location."
