Incredibly Cheap Android Tablet Rolls Out In US

If you’re looking for an inexpensive gift this holiday season and like giving people Android tablets, the UbiSlate 7Ci is the slate for you. It’s a little harder to imagine who might want to own one, but at $37.99 the tablet is the perfect device to give away.  Boasting 512MB RAM and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, it's probably not on too many Christmas wish lists, but will still make for a nice stocking stuffer.

Datawind on Monday announced the UbiSlate's rollout in the U.S., saying it hoped the low-cost tablet would help get more people online.

“The development of the tablet stemmed from the realization that lack of Internet adoption in many parts of the world was primarily because of lack of affordability. Our aim is to bridge the gap by offering cost-effective, high specification devices and Internet-access that offer excellent value to all,” said Datawind CEO Suneet Singh Tuli in a press statement. “At Datawind, we’re working to bring affordable technology to the many millions of households who are currently excluded from benefitting from the digital revolution.”

While the UbiSlate 7Ci provides a super-affordable option for shoppers on a tight budget, its value is a little questionable since there are tablets starting in the $100 range that offer a lot more bang for your buck. Still, it’s hard to argue with a $37.99 Android tablet, just don’t expect it to break any records in a benchmark test.

The UbiSlate 7Ci supports Internet via Wi-Fi online, but the company also offers two other variants with built-in 3G.
