Installing Android 4.3 SlimBean On Galaxy Nexus

By Staff Reporter | Nov 26, 2013 05:05 PM EST

Although some variants of the Galaxy Nexus have official Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware updates available, many might still opt for a SlimBean Jelly Bean build because of custom features like Slim Dark.

This guide will walk you through the installation process. As always, we assume no liability for the firmware installation. Proceed with caution.

Before Getting Started

This guide is intended only for Galaxy Nexus handsets. Flashing any other device through this method may result in a bricked phone.

You will need to be rooted and running ClockworkMod.

As always, you want to backup your device and charge it to at least 80 percent. Finally, enable USB Debugging mode by navigating to Settings -> Developer Options.

Installing SlimBean ROM (Jelly Bean 4.3) On Samsung Galaxy Nexus

1) You’ll need to download the ROM, which can be found  XDA&txt=here&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13834922361596" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here (Maguro) or XDA&txt=here&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13834922658579" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here (Toro), as well as the Google Apps package.

2) Using your USB cable, connect your Galaxy Nexus to a computer and copy the SlimBean ROM and Google Apps package to the root folder of your handset’s SD card.

3) Boot into recovery mode by holding down Volume Down, Volume Up and Power buttons together.

4) Using CWM recovery, perform “wipe data/factory reset,” “wipe cache,” “wipe dalvik cache,” and finally, format the system through the “mounts and storage” submenu.

5) Finally, hit “Install Zip from SD card” within CWM recovery and navigate to the ROM you copied earlier, which will be in a .zip archive. Once you select the ROM, your Galaxy Nexus will begin to install SlimBean and the process should take five minutes or so to finish. Do nothing until the installation is complete.

6) Once the ROM is loaded, navigate to “Reboot System Now” and allow the phone to restart. Once it boots back up, you are officially running SlimBean’s Android 4.3 custom ROM. Kudos.
