OnePlus 5 Review: is 'Flagship Killer' worth buying over iPhone? By Harsh Soni h_soniji@rediffmail.com | Jun 26, 2017 05:11 PM EDT The much-anticipated OnePlus 5 finally released, putting a full stop to the several speculations and rumors. The flagship killer, as per the company, is "more than just specifications," and there's equivalent importance on the design, performance, camera, and battery life of the latest smartphone. Specifications The OnePlus 5 has the top-of-the-line specifications which include Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 6 & 8GB of RAM and 64 & 128GB of storage. On the software front, it runs on OxygenOS based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The device is a dual-SIM dual-standby smartphone with support for Nano-SIM cards. The latest OnePlus 5 boasts 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED screen with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, covered with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Camera Details According to NDTV, OnePlus 5 boast 16-megapixel main camera with a f/1.7 aperture. Another lens in dual camera is a 20-megapixel telephoto camera which has a f/2.6 aperture. On the front side, the flagship killer rocks a 16-megapixel front camera with a f/2.0 aperture, and EIS. Hands on experience As noted by The Guardian, OnePlus 5's battery is tremendous. While browsing and using apps for three hours with hundreds of push emails, listening to around five hours of music and 60 minutes of gaming, the smartphone lasted just over 28 hours between charges. Normal users might see two-day battery life. OnePlus's Dash Charge lives up to its name, charging the device even when in use faster than almost any other charge technology. A full charge takes around an hour. The only downside of Dash Charge is that you need special chargers to make use of it. Similar to iPhone 7 Plus OnePlus 5 looks and feels dated compared to the likes of the Galaxy S8 and LG G6. Its similarity to an iPhone 7 Plus is extraordinary, and in many ways, it is like an iPhone running Android. Similar to Phone 7 Plus, the OnePlus 5 is having the feature to create Bokeh effect in the background of photos, which is called "portrait mode." A single tap on a button in the newly launched smartphone's camera app switches from the wide-angle lens to the telephoto lens, therefore enabling 2x optical zoom, which is also same as iPhone 7 Plus, as reported by CNET. Price and availability Price for the OnePlus 5 in the United States for the variant with 6GB RAM, 64GB storage is $479 and for 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant in Midnight Black color is $539. The flagship killer is available for pre-orders, while the general sale of the device will start on June 27.
