OnePlus 5 said to FAKE Benchmarks for getting higher scores, OnePlus responds By Harsh Soni h_soniji@rediffmail.com | Jun 26, 2017 02:23 PM EDT OnePlus 5 is now official, and it packs the latest Snapdragon 835 SoC, up to 8GB of RAM, and much more. The smartphone's initial reviews are also surfacing on the net, and most of the reviews have given strong emphasis to the fast performance of the OnePlus 5. However, a new report claims that OnePlus has again faked the benchmark scores for its latest smartphone. Manipulating benchmark AOnePlus has been accused of manipulating scores on AnTuTu, Androbench, Geekbench 4, Quadrant, GFXBench, Nenamark 2 and Vellamo. This is not the first time that OnePlus is manipulating the benchmark scores, earlier with the OnePlus 3T the company was also accused of doing something alike. On the other hand, the company has denied the charge. This faked benchmark was first noticed and reported by XDA Developers. The report claims that flagship killer has actually used cheating mechanisms to calculate benchmarks. The moment user smartphone detects a benchmark app; the minimum frequency of the little cluster goes to the maximum frequency which is 1.9GHz. Using this method, OnePlus has achieved some of the highest scores on #GeekBench 4. Benchmark scores: claimed and achieved In the said manipulated benchmark scores OnePlus 5 has scored over 6,700 in multi-core performance on Play Store version of Geekbench, while the smartphone didn't manage to reach 6,500 when tested on the site's hidden build of the app. The publication also claims that the company is keeping CPU frequencies of cores in the smartphone higher so as to obtain better results in the benchmark, as reported by Indian Express. The report also reads that only 24.4 percent of results have given the 1.9GHz maximum frequency in the small cores, while the number jumped to a whopping 95 percent of results when the manipulation was enabled. In February this year, OnePlus and Meizu were reported to be cheating on their benchmark scores by falsifying the CPU to an artificial clock speed. OnePlus official statement The company says in its official statement that, they are not overclocking the smartphone. The company claims that people most of the time make use of benchmark apps to determine the performance of their smartphone, and they really want users to recognize the true performance of the device. OnePlus 5 in itself is a hit. It is surprising that just after the launch the company has indulged in such practices and that too for the second time after being accused of such acts before.
