Amazon 3D Smartphone With Eyeball Control: Is It Possible? [RUMORS]

Google Glass isn’t the only fancy new technology to come out that will improve your smartphone experience. Amazon’s 3D phone wants to get in on the action with a fairly remarkably phone with an extremely advanced Star-Wars-esque hologram display. The Wall Street Journal described the phone as follows:

One of the devices is a high-end smartphone featuring a screen that allows for 3-D images without glasses, these people said. Using retina-tracking technology, images on the smartphone would seem to float above the screen like a hologram and appear three-dimensional at all angles, they said. Users may be able to navigate through content using just their eyes.

The device sounds similar to the Google Glass except you won’t have to wear anything on your head and it would have a 3D holographic display. The question is if Amazon can actually deliver on some of these rumors. The 3D device market isn’t doing so great, HTC scrapped 3D phones last year based on customer feedback, HTC Global Online Communications manager Jeff Gordon said, "I wouldn't say 3D was necessarily dead, I mean never say never, but we don't have any new products with 3D in the lineup. That's based partially on customer feedback, what we know the market wants, and also a design decision we've made. Even TV makers weren’t too focused on 3D because of the glasses required choosing to focus on other technology.

Recently though competition has been reinvigorated with the Google Glass and Samsung Galaxy SIV which have eyeball-tracking technology. This could be a sign that that the market is getting ready to revive and that we may soon see a slew of new 3D smartphones. Or at least we hope that's what it is.
